Although the staff at Martindale Physiotherapy is likeable, the physiotherapist (Tom) was unable to help me. I went to Martindale Physiotherapy for over a year, multiple times a week, and saw no improvements. I finally changed physiotherapists and have been steadily improving ever since. I suspect that Tom’s training is too conventional and textbook-oriented to be able to figure out how to help someone with a complex injury. I assume that if a patient has a straightforward injury or surgery, Tom would be able to help such a patient. Also, my subsequent physiotherapist spends the entire 30-minute session working one-on-one with me, something Tom is not able to do because he and his assistant have a room full of patients at the same time.

I am sorry to hear you did not have a good experience with our clinic. Our clinic has a few patients which I see for an extended period of time; they are usually a chronic pain patient we are trying to maintain comfort for. You are correct in saying we see many non-complicated cases, this is the majority of orthopaedic problems. However, after 32 yrs of practice there are few problems I have not come across and for that reason I receive specific referrals for hard to treat cases. A majority of the more complicated cases involve extrinsic factors we do not have a lot of control over, ie., underlying health issues, occupation, sports participation and/or lifestyle. We do have a very busy clinic and it is set up to accommodate the many patient referrals we receive. This may not be the right fit for some patients. I am happy you were able to get help for your problem and appreciate the feedback as it helps to improve our service.
